Your DUI won't be an issue but the other offence could potentially be a problem. If you declare anything they WILL detain you at customs, take you into a room and grill you. If they don't like your answers they will send you back on the next plane out. Believe it or not, they actually don't want people in their country that are high risk.

You would be best to call the embassy and ask before travelling or just not declare anything.

Don't sweat it too much. I've met a few working holidayers with worse records, and DUIs are apparently quite common. Left the house and ran home. I just got my work and holiday visa for Australia from the states.

Mine much more substantial. I have 4 possessions of marijuana, possession with intent to sell cocaine, assault on a law enforcement officer, and running from a state facility. All when I was a juvenile except for one of the possession charges. About a week after I applied for my visa they asked for more information. I typed up a letter explaining each of my charges, stating that they were all stupid mistakes of a young drug influenced mind.

I stated that I have been clean of all charges since and promised I have cleaned up my act and would not be a nuisance to their country if they would allow me to work there for a year. About a week later my visa was granted.

And I am on my way to Tasmania. Congratulations on getting your visa and thank you, your reply has been very helpful. At least I will have chance to explain my offenses, and. Cake Day. I just want to know the standing of where I am and the chances I will be cleared and allowed the visa? Another question I have to ask is the amount of funds you have to take with you and 'prove' to the Australian authorities that you have in your bank account to fend for yourself abroad. There isn't an official amount and I've heard various amounts but just want someone to clarify this. Just apply and declare the criminal record and see what happens I know people, but I'm weary about how long ago I was convicted of these as that might have a standing on whether I get the visa, but I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet Well the only way you are going to find out is by applying, or possibly speaking with someone at the Australian immigration department.
